About us:

On the EDGE Conservation is a recently established not-for-profit, whose mission is to reconnect people with the wonder of the natural world in a fun, engaging, and positive way. Using innovative and cutting-edge media and technology, our ultimate objective is to develop advocates for the protection and restoration of the natural world. We are also a science-based, grant-giving organisation, engaged in advocacy work to translate increased environmentalist public sentiment, into policy change and real action on the ground. We have two major audiences, Generation Z and policy makers.

About the role:

As the Art Director you will lead visual direction, and the art development process for On the Edge Conservation’s 3D digital animated series, as well as the On the Edge Conservation’s impact work.

This position will work hand-in-hand with the Head of Creative Content, 3D artists and production vendors to ensure assets for our 3D animated series, and On the Edge Conservation brand are delivered consistently across our products, including but not limited to short form YouTube series production, and social media assets. Responsibilities include creative and visual storytelling ideation, creation or directing of graphic packages and style guides, and leading the creative content pipeline for a variety of visual asset production needs.

The ideal candidate will also lead on the creation of every-day social media graphic, website design improvements, and designed reports while managing vendors to support this work.


3D Animated Art Direction:

  • Set the standard for, and communicate a clear design vision for On the Edge Conservation’s 3D animated series, and ensure our team of producers and 3D designers uphold and exceed this standard. This includes but is not limited to characters, locations, props, backgrounds, FX, lighting, and colour.

  • Develop and manage the 3D character social media asset creation pipeline and processes to optimize workflows within the team. This will include hands-on asset creation, and vendor management.

  • Collaborate with the Head of Creative Content, writers, and the production team to come up with creative storytelling content and art direct all 3D animated series episodes.

  • Interpret creative briefs and work with materials provided by photographers, CGI artists and compositors to art direct all needed assets.

Brand and Conservation Impact Art Direction:

  • Lead on the creation of assets for PR, marketing, and communication materials for the On the Edge Conservation brand, and conservation impact work. This includes but is not limited to digital and print design, video editing, pitch documents, campaigns and production of high quality visuals for all social channels. This will include hands-on asset creation, as well as vendor management.

  • Create and own the On the Edge Conservation visual brand style guide.


  • Lead internal and external production teams and hire creative vendors as needed.

  • Maintain high quality visual standards in an ever-changing, fast-paced work environment. Motivate, mentor, and support the team with clear and consistent direction.

  • The ability to juggle multiple and often challenging tasks at once, without compromising creative or technical standard, whilst maintaining excellent communication with other team members, external production companies and key stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • At least 6+ years of experience working in the field of 3D character animation and design ideally from pre-production through launch

  • Ability to create concepts and art direct 3D animated characters, props and environments

  • At least 5+ years of hands-on brand and marketing design experience

  • Expert on using Adobe products to create original social media, reports and brand assets on multidisciplinary design projects

  • High level of creativity and originality, as well as the ability to adapt to a wide range of styles

  • Strong knowledge of social media trends, youth culture and new technology is a plus

  • Proven ability to think conceptually and broadly about a creative projects and brand, and to develop and evolve creative system, process and guidelines

  • Experience supervising a design team including delegating, giving feedback, and providing constructive criticism to creatives

  • Strong organization and time management skills

  • A clear communicator both in writing and in person, with excellent all-round interpersonal skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to find creative solutions while working in collaboration with team members and other departments
