Grantee Spotlight: Ashunganya N.N Precious
On the Edge Fund, Storyteller grantee spotlight
12/01/2026
The Notebook, Hunger Games, and now Amphibians on the Edge, all our favourite films are based on books.
Ashunganya N.N. Precious is a filmmaker passionate about telling powerful stories. She studied filmmaking professionally under the mentorship of Director Artnurin Nwunembom, one of Africa’s finest filmmakers and visual storytellers.
In 2023, she won a production grant from NEWF (Nature Environment Wildlife Filmmakers) at The Cameroon International Film Festival CAMIFF to produce a Wildlife Documentary in Cameroon. Now, she’s turning to a book for inspiration.
The Story
Ashungunya’s film will be based on a book written by our conservation grantee, Marina, all about the amphibians that call Cameroon their home. Ash will bring the story to life in a short film, working alongside our conservation grantee, Marina, to inspire children across Cameroon to fall in love with the creatures beneath their feet
Amphibians on the Edge follows Adamou, a young boy from the foothills of Mount Manengouba who is afraid of frogs, until he discovers a mysterious storybook glowing with magic. When he opens it, a mythical frog named Echalle appears and introduces Adamou and his friends, Aminatou and Balkisou, to the hidden world of Cameroon’s rare amphibians. And that’s all we can tell you for now…
