The Story
This multimedia project will bring attention to one of Earth’s rarest primates by combining the art of puppetry and documentary filmmaking in a way that’s never been done before. The project includes a live puppet performance designed to reach local villagers and school children, as well as a 5-minute film to increase the reach and longevity of the story to a Vietnamese and international audience.
The story follows ‘no nose’, a young Tonkin snub-nosed monkey on a journey of self-discovery, searching for their “real nose,” only to realise that their unusual, snub-nosed face is perfectly adapted to their forest home. Narrated by no nose (in both Vietnamese and English), we get a first-person account of their journey leaving the forest and interacting with nearby villagers. The film will combine a scripted story with documentary sequences of the puppet interacting with children, local conservationists conducting their research and outreach, as well as wild monkey sequences from long lens specialists or camera traps.
